Paul was born in Miami, Florida (USA) and spent many years in Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned two advanced degrees in music theory and composition. In recent years, much of Paul’s work has been large format installations that include video, sound, texts, and painting.
Paul Beaudoin is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist living in Tallinn, Estonia. Originally from Miami, Florida, Paul’s background in music theory and composition led to decades of collaboration with some of the most important musical artists of the late 20th century. For years, he also served as a professor of music and art. Yet, his passion for visual art remained largely untapped—until his arrival in Tallinn in 2015 reignited his creative fire.
Paul’s work focuses on installations that combine painting, sound, video, and text to create immersive experiences. His aesthetic centers on vibrant color fields that blend and collide, layered with intricate, darting lines that create depth and motion. Whether on canvas or in multimedia, these works invite audiences into a direct, sensory dialogue.
Sound is equally integral in his video projects, amplifying emotional and intellectual engagement. Themes of memory, identity, and transformation are explored through a mix of visual, auditory, and textual elements, making each project a richly layered experience. “Art allows for a kind of intimacy you rarely find in public spaces,” Paul shares. “It’s about creating a space for connection, where viewers bring their experiences and discover something new with fresh eyes.”
For Tallinn Bearty's 2025 Visual Arts edition, Paul has created Clique Bate. He writes: "Clique Bate is a photographic series exploring the intersection of masculinity, fetish, and nostalgia through the lens of the Bear community. Using vintage graphics layered over black-and-white photographs of Bears in various poses, the work draws from the visual language of subcultures—particularly the advertising imagery that shapes notions of masculinity, fetish, and desire.
The series incorporates a grunge-inspired aesthetic, embracing a rebellious, raw, textured edge. This aesthetic counters the polished perfection typically idealized in fetish culture, instead celebrating the unrefined and vulnerable aspects of masculinity and desire. It challenges the unattainable ideals often associated with fetish imagery by offering a more layered and human perspective.
Playful slang woven into the imagery adds humor and complexity, inviting a broader interpretation of the work. The title, Clique Bate, carries a deliberate double entendre—referencing both digital culture’s seductive clickbait and the playful, performative dynamics within fetish communities."
